FEATURED: 2019 Palette Poetry Prize

We are thrilled to offer the Palette Poetry Prize for 2019: $4000 and publication. We are seeking one excellent poem that speaks to what poetry is and can be for our world today. Send us your incandescent heart on the page. The winner will be selected by our guest judge, Edward Hirsch.

Prairie Schooner Book Prize Contest

Poetry manuscripts of 50 pages or more are eligible for the award of $3,000 and publication by University of Nebraska.

Sewanee Writers’ Conference

Submit a poetry manuscript of 10-15 pages (published or unpublished work) to be considered for this summer’s conference, featuring a poetry faculty that includes Robert Hass and Marilyn Nelson.

Cave Canem Poetry Prize

The prize is open to Black writers of African descent who have not had a full-length poetry collection published by a professional press. Winner to be selected by Final Judge Evie Shockley and screened by first readers Marwa Helal and Tyree Daye.

2020 Etel Adnan Poetry Prize

The University of Arkansas Press and the Radius of Arab American Writers are accepting submissions to the Etel Adnan Poetry Prize. The prize awards $1,000 and publication of a first or second book of poetry to a writer of Arab heritage. The series is edited by Fady Joudah and Hayan Charara.

2020 CantoMundo Poetry Prize

Series editors Deborah Paredez and Carmen Giménez Smith will select a winning manuscript by a Latino/a poet to receive $1,000 and publication by University of Arkansas Press. “The series is open to all US-based Latina/o writers—not just those who have been or are currently CantoMundo Fellows—regardless of citizenship status or previous publication record.”

Idyllwild Arts Poetry Fellowship

Submissions are now open for six fully funded fellowships to the 2019 Writers Week at Idyllwild Arts. The fellowship covers tuition, meals and housing on campus. Fellowship recipients are responsible for their own transportation to and from Idyllwild, CA. Send up to 10 pages of poetry.

Agnes Lynch Starrett Poetry Prize

The Starrett Prize is the only avenue for first full-length poetry manuscripts offered by University of Pittsburgh Press. The prize awards publication, $5,000 and a standard royalty contract.

Waxwing

One of our favorite journals around. “Waxwing publishes poems that sing—of the self, but also of the world. We love poems that love language, love it like a lover, and so wrestle and caress and grind and tease, for the pleasure of it but also the weight of it.”

Beloit Poetry Journal’s Adrienne Rich Award for Poetry

The award is a $1,500 prize for a single poem. Send 1-3 poems—long poems accepted! This year’s judge is Patricia Smith.
